SNAC policy

A Summary of the SNAC policy

The Swedish National Allocations Committee, SNAC, is a subcommittee of the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing, SNIC. SNAC provides a uniform allocation system for SNIC resources to the Swedish research community. A system for allocations with three levels for applications is used:

  • Small level requests: Applications for small allocations are handled locally at the SNIC centers.

  • Medium level requests: Applications for medium level allocations can be submitted at any time to any of the SNIC centers via a unified web form. The evaluation is performed locally and assesses the feasibility of using the requested resources. Information on medium level allocations will be communicated between the SNIC centers.

  • Large level requests: Calls for applications for large level allocations (i.e. larger than a limit which may vary with the type of resource) are issued twice a year by SNAC, and SNAC also evaluates the applications and decides on the allocations. The evaluation is based on scientific merit, need for the resources, feasibility of efficient use of the requested resources, and impact.
